Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Critically analyse and evaluate etiological factors involved in populations with complex communication needs because of social and/or health conditions;
2. Evaluate the impact of disability on individuals' activities and participation and incorporate findings into speech pathology planning and decision making;
3. Develop comprehensive, ethical, evidence-based and culturally responsive assessment and intervention practices for clients requiring the use of multimodal communication strategies for communication; and
4. Critically apply principles of Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) design to create a range of low tech AAC resources for a specific purpose.

Pass requirements
To pass this unit, students must achieve an overall pass of 50% or greater as their final grade for the unit.

Participation requirements
Students are required to attend the intensive components (Weeks 1 and 14) for this unit at the University of Canberra in person.
Students must attend 80% of the lectures, tutorials, and workshops in real-time either present in the physical classroom or online in the virtual classroom.
Attendance is required for accreditation.
To pass this unit students must achieve an overall pass of 50%.
Required IT skills
This unit involves both face-to-face and online workshops in real time using the Virtual Room in your 天涯社区Learn teaching site. The Virtual Room allows you to communicate in real time with your lecturer and other students. To participate verbally, rather than just typing, you will need a microphone. For best audio quality we recommend a microphone and speaker headset. For more information and to test your computer, go to the Virtual Room in your 天涯社区Learn site and 'Join Course Room'. This will trigger a tutorial to help familiarise you with the functionality of the virtual room.
