Biography

Barbara has taught adult education and community development for over twenty years. She was the leader of the first bilingual offshore masters program developed in the Faculty of Education in collaboration with Hangzhou Normal University, PR China. As a community educator, Barbara has worked with rural communities, environmental education, women’s issues, youth and the aged, as well as in HIV/AIDS, disability and sexuality education.

Barbara has developed a number of innovative research and evaluation methodologies that are effective with multi-stakeholder projects and in groups where there is low literacy or where English is a second language. These include using digital cameras, visual activities, World Caf茅 and empowerment evaluation approaches.

Through her Australian Centre for International Research (ACIAR) grants , Barbara led the development of the Family Farm Teams (FFT) program which began in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and is now being implemented across the Pacific. With her PNG colleagues, Barbara is supporting the further integration of FFT in PNG agricultural settings . Barbara has developed a co-design process for the Training of Trainers to facilitate Pacific Island countries to adapt FFT for their gender, cultural and agricultural context.
